Healthy diet for a change

Nowadays you here more and more often "You are what you eat!" Indeed, what you eat can have a short term or a long term outcome on you and your body. Just think of eating onions or garlic, everyone around you would get a sense of that. But it is not just your breath that is changing, but studies have shown that the hormones your body produce, will be different. Here I do not mean to say that garlic or onions are not part of a healthy diet, on the contrary, I just want to make a point that eating certain types of food does influence your organism.

Another example: think of small babies. They are fed only on maternal milk or a healthy substituent at first, and later they eat only the healthiest of foods, because caring mothers see to that for them. If you have ever held a baby in your arms I am sure you have felt that interesting and unique baby smell, that many think of mystical and angelic. Many scientists could not explain this baby sent, but the major factor is that their little bodies are not yet intoxicated with all the manmade "food wonders ".

So if you want to start a healthy diet you should think of eating only healthy foods, yet adapted to the needs of an adult. Your body needs a certain amount of energy for functioning. Energy should come mostly as proteins and carbohydrates, but also as optimal amounts of minerals and vitamins. All of these can be taken from nature, and it is up to us if we can take what is offered to us. Although you may think fat is bad, fat the correct amount is needed for the well functioning of the body, for instance for the joints, and brain, especially fish fat. The fat around the waist is the first sign that your body is going into the wrong direction. But what can be changed? There are some easy tips you can follow:

  • eat boiled food and meat and avoid fried meal
  • avoid using the same oil over and over again if you still decide to go for fried meals
  • replace pork, as there are so many healthier options: beef, veal, mutton, fish, poultry, seafood
  • eat more fresh fruits and vegetables
  • lower bread consumption
  • drop beer, as a first step to get rid of your beer belly
  • forget about strong alcoholic drinks such as whiskey, as it definitely interferes not only with your judgment but also with the good functioning of your liver
  • for a change you could try a good red wine, as wine is said to dissolve fats, and to contain iron, however, one glass of wine per day is just the right amount
  • eat less but more often, 5 meals a day and smaller amounts of food are desirable to 3 meals rich in fats
  • avoid fast-food restaurants and try fresh food instead
  • take your time when you eat, gulping is not the way
  • do not eat when you work, as people tend to eat more when the mind is dealing with something else

As you can see although this is not an exhaustive to-do-list, it uses nothing more but a common sense mindset. What it takes to accomplish this is a strong will and reorganizing your life. Rethinking your life towards a healthy diet is trying to reshape your eating habits and of those you care for.
